Supporting Emotional Health and Wellbeing

At Broomfield School, we are deeply committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of all our pupils and staff. We understand that life brings challenges, and at times, we all need a little extra support. We believe that promoting positive mental health is the responsibility of the whole school community - and that every member of our team plays an important role in fostering a caring, safe, and supportive environment.

Pupil Wellbeing Champions:

"I wanted to be a Wellbeing Champion because I like caring for people and making sure they're ok." A Year 5 pupil Wellbeing Champion          "I really like helping people using the Five Ways to Wellbeing." ~ A Year 3 pupil Wellbeing Champion

We currently have eight Pupil Wellbeing Champions, two from each Key Stage 2 class. The role of our champions is to organise activities and projects aimed at promoting good mental and physical health.

Our Wellbeing Champions had to apply for this role by submitting a written application. Through this process, they have demonstrated their commitment to promoting health and wellbeing across the school.

We base our activities on the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing shown here:

How We Promote Mental Wellbeing

We work proactively to create a mentally healthy school by:

  • Embedding our school values and nurturing a strong sense of belonging
  • Encouraging pupil voice and involving children in school decision-making
  • Celebrating both academic and personal achievements to build self-esteem
  • Giving pupils responsibility and roles to foster confidence and self-worth
  • Providing regular opportunities for personal reflection
  • Offering access to timely and appropriate support
  • Helping children understand and manage their emotions effectively
  • Teaching emotional resilience and how to cope with setbacks
  • Implementing Zones of Regulation across the school to help children identify, understand and manage their emotions
  • Offering targeted emotional support
